Namaste End of Life Care

What is dementia? It is an umbrella term for the common signs and symptoms people with progressive disease of the brain experience. Dementia is as individual as the person experiencing it and therefore their needs require individualised care and support to ensure their lives are as fulfilled as possible.

Studies have shown that people with dementia, as their illness progresses, often have their end of life care needs overlooked. Decisions are often made in a crisis, with unnecessary hospitalisation and undignified and often unwanted interventions being performed.

What is Namaste? The word literally means `I bow to you` and encompasses the care and support for a person who is in the final phase of their dementia journey. The concept originated in America and aims to enrich the lives of someone in the end stage of dementia through stimulating the senses especially touch, vision and sound.

Namaste End of Life Care

With sensitive advanced care planning, individualised approaches can be tailored to the preferences and needs of the person, including supporting their loved ones. As Dame Cicely Saunders once said “You matter because you are you, and you matter to the end of your life, we will do all we can not only to help you die peacefully, but to also live until you die”.

At Parkmanor we pride ourselves on the care & support we provide, not only to those in our care but extended to family and friends. We see our role as a partnership, supporting and maintaining meaningful relationships to enrich the quality of life of everyone.
