Following acute hospitalisation due to his acquired brain injury, Mariusz was admitted to Matthews Unit, Epinal Way Care Centre in Loughborough on a slow stream rehabilitation pathway.
From day one, Mariusz’s main goal was to go home to his family following a period of rehabilitation. In line with this, the inter-disciplinary team at Matthews Unit worked with Mariusz and his family in tailoring his rehabilitation goals and interventions to enhance his rehabilitation potential and achieve a seamless transition from Matthews Unit to discharge home. Mariusz made an amazing recovery in his rehabilitation journey at Matthews Unit including regaining his ability to walk, attaining improved independence in his activities of daily living, decreasing his care needs and acquiring skills to enable him to successfully live in the community.
Every rehabilitation journey is unique, special and worth celebrating, and Mariusz is a great example of the success of effective rehabilitation when accomplished in partnership with the individual and their family, and when ongoing opportunities are created beyond the acute stage of recovery in order to achieve the individual’s optimal rehabilitation potential.
