Thorpe House Mail Art Project
As soon as lock down began we started a Mail Art project, a large piece of lining paper was rolled out and several residents began to cover it with different colours of paint. Postcard size areas were cut out and these became individualised by each resident – this enabled wide participation as it gave everyone a base to place their own mark, even simply choosing which they wanted to send was participation for those less able. We posted the postcard in an envelope with a blank card for the recipient to do their own art work to send back. One elderly husband said we triggered his love of painting and he now sends regular hand painted cards to his wife whose resident at Thorpe. Our Facebook post also prompted several cards from strangers, keen to keep our residents from feeling isolated. Families have responded positively to receiving the postcards and many have returned wonderful cards.
