We seek to tailor our services to our patients’ particular needs, in partnership with them, their relatives and commissioners.
Our care is aimed at individualised holistic recovery and to actively contribute to the recovery care pathway for individuals moving to greater independence.
We want everything we do in the hospital to be driven by the needs, abilities and aspirations of our patients, not by what staff, management or any other group would desire. We recognise how easily this focus can slip away, and we will remain vigilant to ensure that facilities, resources, policies, activities and services at the hospital remain patient-led.
Service Description
The service is provided to men aged 18-65 years of age, requiring care and treatment in conditions of a locked rehabilitation service. It is a treatment environment for patients who have a diagnosis of mental illness who have been assessed as needing comprehensive, multi-disciplinary treatment, care and rehabilitation by qualified and experienced staff. The patient may present with challenging behaviours, and have elements of risk associated with this behaviour. These patients may require more security than can be provided in general psychiatric ward environments, but can be safely supported at a lower risk level than that offered in low secure services.
Patients will be liable to detention under the Mental Health Act 1983 and may be restricted on legal grounds needing focussed rehabilitation and treatment programmes.
The service provides high levels of therapeutic care underpinned by evidence-based practice.
This includes a comprehensive assessment of the needs of the patient in order to devise an individualised treatment programme that will incorporate social, physical, psychological and mental health needs within a specific and measurable framework of a thorough Care Programme Approach Plan.
