Specialist Unit- About Kingfisher Unit

Kingfisher Unit is a specialist unit providing care and support for service users who may experience behaviours that challenge as a result of a mental health diagnosis.  We understand that every person is unique, with their on life experience, needs, preferences, strengths, and aspirations.  Our approach is therefore centred around the individual, ensuring that care is tailored to specific needs and delivered with compassion, patience, and respect.

We recognise that behaviours that challenge can often be a way of communicating an unmet need, distress, or difficulty, and we work to understand the person behind the behaviour rather than simply focusing on the behaviour itself.

We also promote positive and supportive environment where service users are encouraged to make choices and maintain as much independence as possible.  We believe in positive risk-taking and support individuals to make informed choices and participate in activities that are meaningful for them, while carefully considering their safety and wellbeing.
